First time to Club Med in 30 years. We went with parents (70s), sister's family (kids 5 and 7), and me the uncle. The staff was what impressed us most. They seemed to go above and beyond -- even to the point that almost all of them make a point to say hi when you pass them walking around the resort.
Javier, the pickleball pro, was friendly, enthusiastic, welcoming, and a great teacher too! We also got to play pickleball with another GO, Jersey, whose smile and enthusiasm were always nice to be around.
Alonso, at the front desk, was friendly, knowledgeable, and helped us out with any questions or concerns we had.
The Kids Club was welcoming and kept the kids entertained the whole day, giving the adults time to do whatever they wanted. Our littlest kid really liked Vanessa in the kids club. He's pretty shy and selective about who he gloms on to. She must have done something right!
We preferred to eat at Taco Arte as the Hacienda would get very busy, and the setting of Taco Arte was nicer too (open air, waterfront, less confusing layout). Dinner at Taco Arte required reservations, which are hard with young kids, so we did dinners at the Hacienda, but we would have preferred to do them at Taco Arte. Also Taco Arte was much closer to the family rooms in Aguamarina where the kids were staying.
Rooms were a tiny bit dated, but by no means beat up or dirty. A/C worked well. They told us to keep it on the whole time or things would get sticky, so we did that and slept comfortably in cool and lower humidity comfort. Showers had good water pressure. Housekeeping staff was mostly invisible (a nice thing) while cleaning our rooms every day. They kept the rooms stocked with 2 or 3 liter-sized water bottles every day so we could stay hydrated (we didn't drink any tap water).
We only left the resort one day for a boat trip to Isla Mujeres. We all loved it, especially the kids. But we also would have been just as happy at the resort the whole time. There is always something going on -- day or night. You really have to try hard to be bored.
