Great fun and relaxing family trip.
Our family of 2 sixty somethings, 4 thirty somethings, and an almost 7 year old went to Club Med in Cancun for a week. (Spring Break). We all really enjoyed it!
FYI - the CUN airport was a zoo with very long waits for baggage claim. (They x-ray everything for security) Locating our reserved ride in a very crowded area was tricky, but we finally saw the guy in the bright yellow and blue shirt!
Check in at Club Med was sloooow. The people working were not very good with English. Even tho there was only one other family, it took almost an hour. Not sure why? This happened again for our son’s family who arrived late at night and they were sooo tired. I had received a bunch of messages telling me to enter my credit card in advance, but the site wasn’t secure.
I had a lot of trouble trying to get in touch with any on site staff before we arrived. We had a question about how a child with a broken arm would be accommodated in the Kids program. We never got much of an answer or a good way to communicate, so that didn’t seem good. We didn’t use the Kids Club program.
We thought the resort was great. Beautiful beaches, tropical landscaping, buildings and facilities in very good shape, friendly and helpful staff and workers. Our rooms were very clean, with daily housekeeping services!, comfortable beds, AC was perfect in our room. They provided plenty of bottled purified water for drinking and brushing teeth.
We stayed in the Aquamarina section, near the Kids area. It was a little noisy sometimes from the open passageway, but not bad. We loved our ocean views. The Aquamarina pool and bar and Taco Artes Restaurant and bar were very close. The beach is smaller in this area but very accessible. Pickleball was close. Sailing, paddle boarding & kayaking spot were close. * Weather like high winds caused limited days and times for these and the allowed area is not very big.
It was about a 2/3 mile walk from Aquamarina to the main desk, large Hacienda buffet dining room, main bar, stage, theater, gym, shops, pool, and main large beach area. Other rooms were much closer.
Maybe another 1/2 mile walk out to the mini golf, trampolines, acrobatics, etc.
There are open air shuttles running pretty regularly if you want a ride.
Food was very very plentiful! HUGE selection, including Mexican of course, American, Asian, Italian, Indian, French (croissants), healthy juice drinks made to order, baby foods, kids friendly, lots of fresh salads and fruits. Ice cream! Both Taco Artes and Hacienda are buffet style for breakfast and lunch. There’s a time between 4:30-6:30 pm when only a small stand in the main area is open for things like crepes, French fries, etc. Hacienda is buffet style for dinner too.
To eat dinner (non buffet style) in Taco Artes or Estancia - reservations must be made the morning of the day before. Reservations on the app or at the front desk fill up quickly by about 9:25 am. Neither restaurant was ever more than 1/3-1/2 full, at dinner, so they must be short on staff. The dinner menus are fairly set for all nights - steak and chicken and fish. Service was often slow but friendly.
Bars provide choices of purified plain and flavored waters on tap and bee, wine, any cocktail on request.
Clothing was mostly casual, beach and pool attire, but they ask that you wear coverups in the dining rooms. Some people dressed up for dinners, but many were pretty casual. Bring hats and coverups and sunscreen for sun.
Transportation back to the airport was 3 hours before departure, very efficient even at 5 am. Definitely worth it to arrange this in advance as part of your trip.
