Travel light: Tips for more sustainable travel

Make every trip an unforgettable moment

Discover the world in a way that values the planet and the communities you visit. Sustainable travel means making thoughtful choices that protect the environment, support local cultures and development, and create genuine connections. Whether you're looking for the perfect family destination, a solo traveler seeking your next adventure, or a couple looking for a romantic getaway, how you travel can make a big difference.

From planning and booking to your travel choices, discover how a few simple tips can impact the footprint you leave on the beautiful world around us.

1 - Start small for a big impact

Explore the hidden treasures near you

Spending your holidays close to home is a great way to travel in a meaningful way while reducing your environmental impact. By exploring nearby destinations, you minimize the carbon emissions associated with long-haul flights and extended trips. Staying local allows you to discover hidden gems, support regional businesses, and immerse yourself in the culture and nature of your own region. It's an opportunity to reconnect with your surroundings and create memorable experiences.

Extending your vacation

Extending your vacation is a simple yet effective way to make your travels more responsible. Longer stays allow you to immerse yourself in the local culture, reduce the frequency of long-haul flights, and lower your daily carbon footprint. By choosing a single destination and exploring it thoroughly, you support the local economy, reduce transportation-related emissions, and forge more authentic connections.

At Club Med, we offer Combo packages that allow you to extend your stay. Why not discover Mauritius or the Maldives by staying in two of our resorts within the same destination, or extend the experience by visiting two of our ski resorts?

You can also opt for a city break or explore nearby towns. Or even combine work and vacation.

Traveling more slowly and staying longer transforms your vacation into a richer and more responsible experience for you and the planet.

2 - Smart tips for responsible travel

Choose your airline carefully

Choosing the right airline is essential for responsible travel. Airlines vary in their commitment to reducing their environmental impact, with some investing in fuel-efficient aircraft and more sustainable aviation fuels.

By researching different airlines, you can prioritize those that share your values and actively work to reduce carbon emissions. Supporting these companies not only reduces your carbon footprint but also encourages the industry to adopt more responsible practices.

Filter flights based on their CO₂ emissions.

Discover the environmental impact of your flights. Explore our CO2 filter – which lets you sort flight results based on their carbon footprint. In partnership with Travalyst, Club Med now offers its guests the ability to view flight options based on CO2 emissions. Simply click on the filter and flights will be displayed according to their CO2 emissions.

4 - Tools for committed travelers

Carbon offsetting

There are many ways to reduce your carbon footprint: travel closer to home, take longer trips, or choose less polluting modes of transport. But to go even further, you can offset your remaining emissions by investing in carbon offsetting projects.

These programs and tools allow you to estimate the environmental impact of your travels and assess the amount of carbon credits needed to offset your impact elsewhere. These credits fund projects that, depending on their nature, either prevent additional emissions into the atmosphere or capture existing carbon.
